　　Nirvana （“涅盘”乐队 ）3名成员（ 包括主音&吉他 Kurt Cobaia, 贝斯手 Chris Noroselic）於1987年成军於华盛顿。1989年, Nirvana 在西雅图的一家唱片公司Sub-Pop 发表了首张专辑"Bleach" , 首创 Grunge 乐风.90年鼓手换成Davd Grohl，全新的组合使 Nirvana呈现另一种独特的摇滚属性，而他们在年底发表了最著名的专辑“Nevermind”以一首“Smells Like Teen Spirit”打入全美排行榜,以狂野不羁的摇滚火力与大胆深刻的批判态度急速窜起。
　　随著他们的受注目, 在西雅图乐界推动了属於90年代庞克复兴运动，也引起了全美的狂潮。 Nirvana 不仅继承了70年代庞克运动的精髓，也成了另类摇滚的新贵。而这张专辑在Billboard排行榜连续四周冠军,而在200名内维持了92周之久Nirvana 成了 Grunge 的始祖。 Nirvana 的成功,使得一些以前只能在地下生存的乐团脱去非主流的束缚。

Nirvana 以强大吉他噪音墙构成的重摇滚风格, 展示他们一 惯咨意剖露不安, 挖掘黑暗的批判个性.首支单曲 "Heart-Shaped Box", 更登上现代摇滚排 行榜冠军 Nirvana 是一个很尊重人权的团体,他们相信世人,并主张人人平等 他们痛恨种族歧视,或藐视妇女,而用歌曲为社会黑暗把脉。1994年四月八号,Nirvana主唱 Kurt Cobain 在家举枪自尽。在此之前录制的MTV Unplugged in New York便成为最后一张作品。Nirvana随着乐队灵魂人物 Kurt Cobain 的离去不复存在了，但他们的音乐风格和精神不死。
